Climate Action

Each year, our properties join the Earth Hour movement by turning off non-essential lights for one hour.

We also offer guest experiences with a strong sustainability message, such as the eco-market at Angsana Teluk Bahang, Banyan Tree Huangshan's WeChat environmental quiz, and monthly full moon Earth Hour in the Maldives.

We ensure that all our properties exceed industry baseline standards for production of low CO2 emissions, while educating and raising awareness of the linkage between harmful emissions and climate change, as well as the impacts they have on both the environment and all living beings.

We commit to reducing water consumption rates through improved efficiency, adoption of new practices or technology, and awareness programmes to encourage behavioural change and promote environmental sensitivity and best practice.

To promote sustainable food choices, we implement company-wide initiatives such as food diversion programmes, compost sites, Meat-Free days and organic gardens and farms.

Our food waste goals are 30% reduction and 50% diversion from landfill by 2025, with 50% reduction and 100% diversion by 2030.

Since our 2018 pledge to cut down on single-use plastic, we have tracked 31 categories of plastic, achieving a reduction rate of 53%.

Our property in Vietnam added a water bottling plant in 2021, eliminating 360,000 plastic bottles annually, joining our properties in Bintan and the Maldives in bottling locally.

Since 2022, we have implemented compulsory waste monitoring and recycling tracking at all properties including those not registered with EarthCheck.

Currently, recycling initiatives at 21 properties engage over 2,200 participants to recycle, donate or transform waste into art to raise awareness of best practice and reduce waste to landfill.
